The National Anthem
The Star Spangled Banner
I have had the honor to have sung the Star Spangled Banner, back in the 1980’s for the Dodgers, Angels, Rams, Lakers, L.A.Kings, L.A. Express, L.A. Galaxy, and even the Boston Red Sox, when I was singing with the country quartet The Indian River Boys . Great way to get good seats to a game, too ! Love to be able to do that again.
Singing the Star Spangled Banner allowed me to see Kareem Abdul Jabbar win the game on sky hooks from beyond the arc, twice, just as the game buzzer sounded. I saw Eric Dickerson, the great running back of the Rams, make his way down the field, through traffic, leaving everyone behind looking as is they were running in slow motion. I met the quarterback Steve Young when he was with the L..A.. Express of the USFL, before he became a San Francisco 49er. Singing for the Dodgers and the Angels was always an honor, and a treat.
This video is more recent, as I was singing for the Fine Arts Ballet Memorial Day concert in Temecula, California. It was a touching show, dedicated to the sacrifices that our servicemen and women, and families make to serve our country. While I’ve loved the games that I ‘ve been able to see, due to singing the Star Spangled Banner well, I take singing the anthem quite seriously. It’s a solemn and proud song. I sing it mostly as written, without a whole lot of vocal gymnastics. And I don’t forget the words. It’s too important of a song for someone singing it not to respect it enough to remember the words. I hope to have the honor of singing it at various events many more times.
